Edmodo is an "alert/discussion-board" style service designed especially for educators to use with students. It has a Twitter-style feed, without the contentlimited characters. Its design looks like Facebook.
Pros:
-can set up multiple "groups" (classes) for students to sign up to
-can post "notes" (basic text, like "Test tomorrow" or "What did you think of the reading assignment?')
-can post "assignments" (due date appears on student's calendar, you can upload files)
-can post/talk to individual students, only certain groups, or to "everyone" in your page here."network"
-Students chose to be notified of new Edmodo posts without having to sign in to Edmodo each day (they chose email, Facebook, or Twitter, all optional)
-you can reset student passwords and look up their username if they forget
Cons:
-"easy sign up" system makes students create their own account and enter a code to sign up to your group/class. However, this means while your class code is active, a student could create a fake account and anonymously post nasty comments. (You can delete them and their comments, but that's after it happens.) To avoid this, you'd have to create the student accounts yourself and individually give them their username and password.

Technology movement. Where is everyone getting this 2 per class thing? I never heard of it. Everyone I know has one desktop. It changed my opinion as well, are there actually the correct number of computers (not counting lab rooms) to have 2 desktops in each room? If so, this "big change" period would be a great time to redistribute.

Technology movement. My initial thought was for the added computers in the classroom. The staff member has them now and should be allowed to keep them. However, upon further mind-crunching contemplation, I believe that all should be given the same amount of units. Next year promises to be a completely new year in many many for all the faculty, and we should not be seen as playing favorites. As the progresses, we may get a clearer understanding of who really need extra units and just how many we have in the building. So I am for two per class at this time.

Technology movement. as to this question, I do not believe it is possible to pick and choose who will have equipment and who not ... where do you draw the line ... seniority ... it will only be seen as favoritism ... I am sure mos of us would want computer work stations .... and until we are all on equal footing, tech wise, I can see no fair way to grant that wish.

Technology movement. I would state that only two computers desktops can stay with any room. This was district policy. Some teachers rooms have only one, my room for example. Therefore some teachers have taken other classroom computers in order to get 3. Only two were designed to be in each classroom according to splost. I would consider moving one computer provided the room has two to start with to a room that could be used as a lab if that is possible. Whatever we decide it should benefit all not individuals
